METTLER TOLEDO is Technology Partner in Europe's Largest Autonomous Shopping Location

METTLER TOLEDO, one of the market's leading providers of retail solutions, is a technology partner in the new Netto Marken-Discount "Pick&Go" shop in Regensburg, Germany which opened on 9 January 2024 and which is also the largest autonomous shopping location in Europe.

Pioneering role in autonomous purchasing – "In our new shop in Regensburg, customers can use our 'Pick&Go' service for the first time without registering and without having to check in," says Christina Stylianou, Head of Corporate Communications at Netto. "This enables our customers to enjoy a fully autonomous shopping experience without prior registration and without the need to use a smartphone."

Integration of fruit and vegetables department – In the 800 square metre innovation shop, Netto customers can expect the usual extensive range of fresh produce. Daniel Joha, METTLER TOLEDO SBU Manager Retail NWK&CKO Europe, comments: "We are delighted that we were able to develop a weighing solution together with Netto Marken-Discount as a technology partner that allows us to seamlessly and fully integrate sales by weight in the fruit and vegetable department into this pioneering shop concept."

Shopping made easy! – Upon entering the shop, smart technology in the ceilings and shelves allocates the products removed to the respective customers and creates the individual shopping baskets and purchase amounts in real time. This is done anonymously, without any personal data being recorded. Trigo Vision Ltd.‘s technology does not store any biometric data or movement profiles, the data remains anonymous and is deleted after the payment process when the customer leaves the shop.

Before paying at the two fast-exit terminals at the exit, customers are shown their shopping basket and the purchase total on the display. The goods do not have to be placed on a checkout conveyor belt or scanned, the receipt is issued at the fast exit terminal – a service that is currently unique worldwide. Cashless payments can be made by card, ApplePay, GooglePay or the Netto app.

Automatic weighing in the fruit and vegetable department – Shopping in the fruit and vegetable department is simple and transparent for Netto customers: as soon as the product is taken out of the fruit or vegetable crate, the fresh produce is automatically weighed and the name of the item, its weight and price are shown on the associated digital display. At the same time, the items are transferred directly to the digital receipt with the correct price.

Hybrid shopping for everyone! – In addition to fully autonomous shopping via fast-exit terminals, customers at the Netto innovation shop in Regensburg will continue to be able to pay as usual at the regular and self-service checkouts on site. "With the combination of these three paymentoptions, we are offering the best possible shopping experience for all customers," says Christina Stylianou. "Smartphone-savvy customers can also pay for their purchases on-site at the fast-exit terminals using the award-winning Netto app and utilise other benefits of the app, such as redeeming store discount coupons."
